Bloomberg is considered to have had a far-reaching influence on politics, the business sector and culture of New York City during his three terms as mayor. Bloomberg is an environmentalist and has been advocating for policies to combat climate change at least since he became mayor of New York City.
He is currently the mayor of the city of Ketchikan and has been a member of the City Council for the past eight years. In 2001, New York's Republican mayor, Rudy Giuliani, was unable to be re-elected due to the city's two-term limit. Bloomberg stated that during his term as mayor, he traveled on the New York City subway every day, particularly on the way from his home on 79th Street to his office at City Hall.
